During our two week sessions each camper has the opportunity to go on an Out of Camp trip in the Plumas National Forest with his or her group. Depending on the age of the camper, the campout may be as close as across our lake, or far enough in the wilderness that the campers must backpack there. With trained staff to supervise, campers experience the outdoors up close. Upon returning, the campers have grown closer to their bunkmates and their counselor. For city dwellers, an out of camp trip may open up a whole new world. HikesOnce a session campers are offered the opportunity to go on an all-day hike. After a short drive to a local mountain, campers unload and hike a few miles to the top of a peak. When they reach the top campers eat lunch (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches never tasted so good) and take in the view. On some hikes, snow can be found at the summit year round. Campers love to play in the snow, especially after a day of hiking. DancesEach session the entire camp participates in a dance. Campers are encouraged to bring CDs they would like to have played during the dance. Each dance has its own theme. Toga dances, decade dances and the occasional masquerade ball add something extra to the event. After a few hours of dancing, campers are treated to punch and snacks before heading off to bed. Large-Scale Special Events...Over the course of the summer, Walton's holds a number of large-scale Special Events. They include our 4th of July Carnival, Track meet, Progressive Games, Song Contests, Water Carnivals, Scavenger Hunts, Circuit Relay Day, and a Counselor Hunt.
Other Special Events...Just to make sure no two days at Walton's are the same, a number of smaller Special Events occur during each session. These include: wrestling tournaments, Ice Cream Socials, Dinner Socials, movie nights and a talent show. |
